Shared living is a unique living option for adults with intellectual disabilities or autism who have section 21 or 29 waiver funding and reside in Maine. It allows the individual the option to live with a home provider in the community. A highlight of this living situation is that it honors the consumer’s choice in which type of home setting they reside in and with whom they live as well. The consumer will have the opportunity to participate with the home provider and their family in all day-to-day activities as well as inclusion in the community. The hope for every shared living setting is that the consumer experiences a stable support system and higher quality of life than achievable in group living.
